Sample Processing Notes

Review these requirements before preparing and shipping leak test samples to National Leak Test Center.

Normal processing time

Please allow 3–5 weeks for normal sample processing. Shipping time for incoming samples and outgoing results is additional.

  1. Expedited service

    When a shorter processing time is required for an inspection or audit, use a tracked shipping service and notify the laboratory before sending the samples by using the contact form on this page.

    Turnaround shorter than one week may be subject to a $5 per-kit expediting fee. You may also request emailed results when submitting samples.

  2. Mark the outer package with your customer number

    Be sure to write your customer number on the outside of the shipping package. This number is required to identify and track packages before they are opened for processing.

    Packages cannot be opened until they are actively being processed. Clearly marking the customer number on the outside helps us answer shipment-status questions and handle expediting requests.

  3. Complete and legible paperwork

    National Leak Test Center is not responsible for inaccuracies or delays caused by incomplete, illegible, or missing paperwork. Follow the instructions enclosed with each kit.

    Mark all correspondence and samples with your customer number. Providing an email address helps us resolve questions efficiently.

  4. Package labeling

    Special labeling is not required by the carrier. Do not mark the package “radioactive.” The submitted sample is not considered radioactive material for shipping purposes, even if contamination is detected.

  5. Multiple kits

    Place multiple kits in one shipping package whenever possible so they remain together during transit.

  7. Incorrectly addressed packages

    Packages sent to any other address may be returned as undeliverable. Redirect charges are the sender’s responsibility, and National Leak Test Center cannot control losses caused by improper addressing.

  8. Use only supplied kit material

    Use only the material supplied in the test kit unless prior authorization is received. Do not substitute tissues, cloth, or other materials for the provided filter paper.

  9. Prepare samples as instructed

    Samples that are not prepared according to the supplied instructions may incur additional charges because they can create processing hazards. Folding the filter paper, for example, can cause a serious contamination problem during analysis.
